Wheelwright's Oven, The Green, East Walton, Norfolk

The building was originally a wheelwright's oven. It was built in the mid 19th century. The oven could hold six iron tyres. There is also a circular wheel plate in iron set into the ground c3m to the west of it. This would have been used when fitting the iron tyres around the wooden wheel. Before the invention of the rubber tyre all wheels would have been wooden with an iron ring/tyre around them. This oven continued in use until c1940.
