Wave wall and water-ladder, Hetton, North Yorkshire

These buildings are a wave wall with valve tower and bridge, water-ladder, low level outlet, weir and gauging house. They were all built in c1885-1893 by Henry Rofe and Edward Filliter, Civil Engineers of Leeds. They are an unusual and outstanding example of a canal reservoir being given architectural treatment. They were built to serve the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
