Water Pumping House, Halsall Lane, Ormskirk, Lancashire

This water pumping house has the date '1870' over it's doorway. It is an unusual building of striking architectural appearance, reflecting Victorian awareness of the historical significance of public water supplies. Before this time water had to be fetched from wells or hand pumps in the street.
