Town Hall, Bishop Auckland, Durham

This town hall and market dates from 1860-62. It was designed by JP Jones in a Gothic Revival style. The roof is in a French style. It was built for Bishop Auckland Town Hall and Market Company Ltd. The council chamber was above the covered market. The building also contained a reading room, an assembly room and 2 shops. In 1972 it was being converted to a community centre and library.
