The Roman Town Wall, Colchester, Essex

The wall was probably built in the late 3rd century. Originally the wall was some 3,100 yards in length, forming a rectangular shape. The wall is still traceable today except for in the south-west corner, which was much damaged by the Siege of 1648 in the Civil War. Colchester is the oldest recorded Roman town in the British Isles.
