The Hall, Church Lane, Somersal Herbert, Derbyshire

This small country house was built in the early 16th century. It was partly encased in brick in 1712 and restored in 1899. It has a timber frame with lath and plaster panels between the timbers. It is probably the best example of a half timbered house in Derbyshire. A wooden plaque said to have come from over the front door is inscribed with the words. ANNO DN1/1564 IHON/FYTS HER/BERT HYS/WYFE IHS. (In the year 1564 John Fitzherbert and his wife).
