St Wilfrid's Church, Calverton, Nottinghamshire

Detail of carved figures on the wall of the tower of St Wilfrid's Church. The stones were probaly first carved in Norman times, in the 11th century. There are 7 and they are thought to have once been part of an agricultural calendar. Each of them is thought to represent a specific month in the farming year. They show scenes such as harvesting, threshing and feasting, giving a glimpse into the lives of our medieval ancestors.
