St Martin's Hospital, Midford Road, Bath, Bath and North East Somerset
The workhouse was built in 1836-8 to a Y-shaped design by Sampson Kempthorne on a site to the south of the city. It was designed to accommodate 600 people from the new Bath Union, set up after the passing of the 1834 Poor Law Act. It cost around £12,300 and the buildings were faced with Bath stone.
