St James' Parish Centre, Dursley, Gloucestershire

This building was built as a school in 1833. It has the inscription 'NATIONAL/SCHOOL/1833'. The National Society for Promoting the Education of the Poor supported the building of National Schools on behalf of the Anglican Church. Churches of all denominations supported the building of schools long before there was any official government department to do so.
