South Promenade, Saint Anne's On The Sea, Lytham St Annes, Lancashire

Looking inland from the pier across the beach towards the South Promenade. The neighbouring towns of Lytham and St Anne's on the Sea have grown together to form a seaside resort. St Annes overlooks the Irish Sea, whereas Lytham overlooks the Ribble Estuary. Lytham is an old settlement founded on fishing and shrimpin. St Annes was built as a planned town. It was officially founded on the 31st March 1875 when the cornerstone of the St Anne's Hotel was laid. The pier was opened on 15 June 1885.
