Semaphore House, Esher, Surrey

This building was originally an Admiralty Telegraph Station. It was built in c1822. It was one of a line of such towers on the London-Portsmouth line. It allowed communications to pass between Portsmouth and Whitehall (the telephone wasn't invented until 1876).
