Remains of West Gate, The Close, Lichfield, Staffordshire

This is one of the few remaining parts of the Close fortifications. The wall was built in the mid 14th century for Bishop Langton. Most of the fortification was destroyed during the Civil War and was finally demolished to make way for Newton's College.
