Remains of Greasley Castle, Greasley, Nottinghamshire

These farm buildings include the remains of a medieval castle. Greasley Castle was a fortified manor house. It was called a castle from 1340 onwards. This is when a licence to crenellate his dwelling at `Gryseleye' was granted to Nicholas de Cantelupe by Edward III. It is believed to have been destroyed by about 1700. The remains have been re-used in these buildings. Nearby there are also earthwork remains of a moat, enclosure, fishponds and an open field system.
