This row of 6 cottages overlooking Redcross Gardens dates from 1887 and was designed by Elijah Hoole for Octavia Hill. She establishd the Gardens as an 'open air sitting room for the tired inhabitants of Southwark'. The houses were built as model dwelling cottages to adjoin the gardens and a community hall. They demonstrate her ideals as the pioneer of wholesome, well designed working-class housing. They were designed with a strong Arts and Craft influence They have gabled fronts, bay windows, mullioned windows, tile hanging and jettied 1st floors with varied designs of panelling in stucco.
