Pillar Fountain, Bantons Lane, Ticknall, Derbyshire
This pillar fountain or pump was manufactured by Glenfield and Kennedy Ltd of Kilmarnock. It was put in place in 1914 by Sir Vauncey Harpur-Crewe of Calke Abbey. The cast iron column has a domed top with a tap handle. There is a Lion mask where the water comes out and a built in bucket stand at the base. The late 19th century design is known as Kennedy's patent, self closing, anti-freezing Pillar fountain. The fountain forms part of a fresh water supply system for the village of Ticknall. It is one of 17 still in place. The fountains got their water by gravity from a reservoir.
