Pendennis Castle, Falmouth, Cornwall

Constructed between 1540-45, Pendennis sits at the Cornish end of a chain of defensive castles built by Henry VIII on the south coast. The castle's strategic position has proved its worth over time, with its defence and armaments continually adapted over a period of 400 years to provide defence from the French and Spanish in the 16th century to the Germans in World War II. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010). Find out more. Take advantage of our free entry for Learning Groups.
