Parachute Store, RAF Base

Interior view of a parachute store at an unidentified RAF base. The Royal Air Force played crucial role in World War Two. Parachutes had been in use by the military since World War One but it was not until the 1st of August 1942 that the Parachute Regiment (known as the Para's) was officially formed. Though preparations for this regiment had been underway since 1940, when Winston Churchill requested 'a corps of at least 5,000 parachute troops, suitably organised and equipped'.
