Old Schoolhouse, Hartburn, Northumberland

This building was built in 1762. It was commissioned by Dr Sharp, the local vicar. It had two main uses. It was the school and also the 'Parish Stable'. The Parish Stable was where the village hearse was kept when not in use for funerals. At this time the hearse would have been horse drawn, hence the term stable.
