Newport Arch, Bailgate, Lincoln, Lincolnshire

The Newport Arch is the remnant of what was the north gate to a Roman legionary fortress. It then became the north gate of the late Roman and medieval city. It was built in the 3rd century, repaired in the 14th century and altered in the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
