National Canning Company Limited, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire

This factory was built in an Art Deco style. It was built in 1923 by the Smedley family. In around 1900 there were 5,000 acres of orchard or garden land within a seven-mile radius of the town. In the summer daily fruit trains ran to the Midlands and London. This is what led to the development of the packaging and fruit canning industry in the town.
