Monument to South Hetton Colliery, Murton, Durham

South Hetton owes its existence to the colliery, which operated between 1830 and 1983. The town became home to around 6,000 people, many of whom were reliant on mining. This monument from the 1980s commemorates the lost heritage of the town.
