Miners' Homes, Shilbottle, Northumberland

These houses were built to provide homes for retired miners. They were built in 1927. They have various inscriptions such as 'HOMES OF REST', 'NORTHUMBERLAND AGED MINEWORKERS' ASSOCIATION' and 'OPENED BY J.C. AISTON, ESQ DIRECTOR OF THE CWS 30TH JULY 1927'. The CWS stands for the Co-operative Wholesale Society. This charity still exists today.
