Milton's Cottage, High Street, Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire

This house was built in the early 17th century and was restored in the 18th century. The house was lent to the poet John Milton by his friend Thomas Ellwood, in order for Milton to escape from London in the plague year of 1665. While he was here Milton finished the poems Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained. This is the only remaining house in which Milton lived.
