Merton Abbey Works, Station Road, Merton, London

In 1881 William Morris moved his workshops from a congested site in Queen Square, Westminster, to a former 18th-century silk works beside the River Wandle. The weatherboarded buildings are seen here across the mill pond. Plentiful water was important for textile production. Many of the buildings have since been demolished.
