Kirby Hall, Gretton, Northamptonshire

A group of people outside the porch on the hall range in the inner courtyard at Kirby Hall. Tourism became popular in the Victorian period and the group appear to be preparing to have a picnic. The Hall was built in the 1570s for Sir Humphrey Stafford who died before its completion. The house then passed to the Hattons who had it significantly altered in 1640. By the 1900s it was a ruin. This property is owned by the Earl of Winchilsea and managed by English Heritage (2010).
