Isleham Priory, Isleham, Cambridgeshire
This is the Priory of St Margaret of Antioch. It was a Benedictine Alien (foreign) Priory founded in 1080-1090. The church was given to the Abbey of St Jacut-de-la-Mer in Brittany between 1086-1163, by local Landowners. The monks moved to Linton, some 25 miles away, in 1254. The lands were seized by the King in 1414, when the priory at Linton was dissolved. The lands were granted to the Master and Fellows of Pembroke College, Cambridge. This Priory Church is the best example in England of a small Norman Benedictine priory church, surviving in a surprisingly unaltered state despite later conversion into a barn.
