Hatfield House, Hatfield, Hertfordshire

Hatfield House was built by Robert Cecil, the first Earl of Salisbury, in 1607-12 at a cost of £40,000. The house still retains a wing of the former Royal Palace, which was home to Elizabeth I throughout much of her childhood.
