Former Biscuit Factory, Foundry Square, Hayle, Cornwall

In the early 19th century this building was part of the general trading side of Harvey & Co’s Foundry which passed to J H Trevithick in 1852. It contained the foundry offices and a shop. In 1895 it was converted to the Cornubia biscuit factory and most of the front of the building dates from that time. It was built from bright red brick in a very decorative Renaissance style. The roof is made from Delabole slate. The Cornubia Biscuit Factory was an early purpose-built production line factory designed to bake biscuits on a conveyor-belt system. The Cornubia was a ship.
