Fish Salting Trough, Old Town Bay, St Marys, Isles of Scilly

This former fish salting trough probably dates from the 18th century. It was recorded by James Troutbeck, antiquarian and Chaplain of the Isles of Scilly between 1780 and 1796. Fish would have been salted in the trough and then left out to dry in the sun as part of the curing/preserving process.
