Eye Castle, Castle Street, Eye, Suffolk

A motte and castle was built immediately after the Norman invasion in 1066. The castle was mostly destroyed in the 14th century. A windmill stood on the motte in the 16th century. A house was constructed there in 1844 on the orders of Sir William Kerrson, who wanted to reward his batman for saving his life during the Battle of Waterloo. This became a ruin in 1979.
