Drying Shed in Tanyard, Church Street, Lacock, Wiltshire

This building was a drying shed for bark used in the tanning process. Bark contains tannin and was stripped from trees and then dried before being ground into a powder. The building dates from the early 1800s. The openings beneath the roof would have allowed air into the building to help the drying process.
