Drawing Water, Boughton, Nottinghamshire

Water is being drawn from the pump at the junction of Ollerton and Walesby Roads. Supplying clean water to the houses of towns and cities was carried out to help prevent diseases like cholera in the 19th century. Rural areas had to wait longer for direct supplies to individual houses, and pumps like this one can still be seen standing idle in many British villages.
