Drake Statue, The Promenade, Plymouth

This memorial dates from 1884, the sculptor was JE Boem. The large bronze statue of Sir Francis Drake shows him with a globe under his right hand and with his left hand on his sword. Drake was famously playing bowls on the Hoe near here when he sighted the Spanish Armada sailing to invade.
