Coke Ovens, Monckton Coke & Chemical Company, West Yorkshire

The chemical plant produces coke, ammonia, tar and benzole, with surplus gas being used to fire the steam-raising plant, as well as being piped to other companies. Coal is loaded into the top of ovens and allowed to carbonise into coke over 20 hours, before being transported to a tower and drenched.
