Bull Ring, Birmingham, West Midlands

The exterior of the Bull Ring Shopping Centre showing the distinctive Bull motif. It was built in the modernist style of architecture. Work began in 1961 and here it is nearing completion in 1964. It was built by John Laing & Son Ltd. and was Britain’s first large-scale indoor shopping mall. The idea was based on American shopping malls. The large complex was designed with both the shopper and motorist in mind. The modernist style of architecture went out of fashion and plans were made to redevelop the site in the 1980s. In 2000 the 1960s shopping centre was demolished.
