Bradgate House, Bradgate Park, Newtown Linford, Leicestershire

These are the ruins of a tudor mansion house and chapel. They were built in c1490 by Thomas Grey, 1st Marquis of Dorset. It was one of the earliest unfortified brick houses to be built in this country. It was the home of the Grey family for nearly 250 years. Lady Jane Grey was born here in 1537, she was queen for 9 days in 1553. In 1547 Sir William Cavendish and Bess of Hardwick married in chapel. Its park setting is a very impressive example of the ancient form of a deer park. The house fell into ruin in c1740-50.
