Restoring the elegance of North Shields' historic town centre.
Howard Street and Northumberland Square include some of the best parts of North Shields' Georgian and Victorian town centre with some strikingly elegant buildings and public spaces. The area links up the newly regenerated Fish Quay on the Tyne with the town centre.
This part of town features alterations from the 1960s and 70s unsympathetic to the historic setting as well as a number of vacant properties and is now in need of revitalising.
Through the High Street Heritage Action Zones initiative, the area has the potential to be a very elegant and fashionable quarter of the town, offering pavement cafes, and stylish dining, as well as other leisure activities and housing.
