Description

Caroline Wheal Prosper was an unsuccessful tin mine that was operational between 1854 and 1857. The mine's remains had not previously been the subject of archaeological study and in 2004 the Dartmoor National Park Authority commissioned archaeological staff from English Heritage's Exeter Office to carry out a large-scale survey of the wooded areas to better understand the remains and help with future management of the site.
