Laing set up a sports ground at Rowley Lane in the late 1940s. The land was initially used as a caravan site for employees between project sites, but later became the site of a bowls club, tennis courts, golf course, and children's playground. The bowling green was laid in 1948. Initially the men-only club played matches between Laing departments; a women's bowling team was founded in 1972. The sports ground was sold in 2002.
