Description

The statue of the Archangel Michael overcoming the Devil was the last sculpture Sir Jacob Epstein created before he died in 1959. The statue overlooks the steps leading up to the entrance of Coventry Cathedral. The photograph shows his widow Lady Epstein, who unveiled the statue, along with Sir Fordham Flower OBE, the chairman of the Coventry Cathedral Reconstruction Committee.

This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
