Description

The collection provides a photographic record of industrial housing and structures at various localities during the 1950s. It is particularly strong in the coverage of buildings associated with the domestic production of textiles. There is fairly broad geographic coverage with particular emphasis on the Midlands , Wiltshire and the north west. Photographs of the Midlands concentrate on the domestic textile workshops of Coventry and Nottingham. In Wiltshire the focus is on the loomshops associated with the domestic production of woollen cloth and the north west is represented by a series of interior and exterior views of Walsh's Mill in Macclesfield, together with shots of silk weavers' housing in Macclesfield and Congleton. There is also one photograph showing J M Prest.
