The strong historic character of Wednesbury is defined by the relationship of the buildings that front onto its Market Place. The 'focus' of these buildings is directed to the heart of the town where the listed clock tower stands.
The architecture is a mix of Victorian and Edwardian buildings, originally of high quality but suffered over the years from lack of maintenance due to low rents and poor profit margins leading to localised market failure.
The improvement of the area could potentially make it a more appealing place to shop but also a restored town square could become a focus for community events.
