Cullompton High Street Heritage Action Zone

Thanks to the local wool industry, Cullompton grew in wealth and importance between the middle ages and the 19th century.

Its High Street reflects that prosperity, boasting some of Devon's finest 17th century merchant's houses and handsome Georgian and Victorian buildings. Its historic market place, the Bullring, is still in use for regular markets and a pleasant open space at the top of the High Street.

How the Cullompton High Street Heritage Action Zone will help

Cullompton is set to expand with nearly 4,000 new homes, plus a Garden Village at nearby Culm, by 2033, so the time is right to revitalise the historic town. A separately-funded town centre relief road is due to be built by 2022, freeing the High Street from excessive traffic and heavy vehicles which currently blight the area. Coupled with the repair of historic buildings and spaces along the High Street and Fore Street, an award of up to £1.1m will help make Cullompton an attractive place for new and existing communities.
