Conservation Research
Historic England carries out and commissions research on a range of topics relating to the conservation of historic buildings, structures and designed landscapes. Historic buildings and designed landscapes are vulnerable to a range of threats and harmful agencies. Our research programme aims to enhance good conservation practice by finding suitable, effective, evidence-based approaches to reducing risks and mitigating harm. The majority of projects are ‘problem-led’, providing solutions that are both practical and sustainable. Findings are published in our Research Reports database and our advice and guidance publications.
