We’ve brought Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings back to life so everyone can enjoy it.

The Mill offers an exhibition and two different guided tours, which can all be booked separately. There is also the fine Turned Wood Café and unique shop for you to visit. The site also offers a varied series of events for all to enjoy.

A separate ticket is needed to visit the Exhibition or to go on a tour, please add tickets for both to your basket.

Please note that the site will be closed on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 March 2024.

The Mill Exhibition

This exhibition on the ground floor of the Main Mill tells the story of this unique survivor of the Industrial Revolution, the building that changed skylines across the world forever.

Fully accessible. A one to two hour visitor experience.

Exhibition is open 10am to 4pm Wednesday to Sunday, plus Mondays and Tuesdays during local school holidays.

Behind-the-Scenes Guided Tour

This guided tour takes you on a journey around this iconic landmark of the Industrial Revolution and gives you the opportunity to dig deeper into the past, present and future of the building that changed skylines across the world forever. Behind-the-Scenes tours are available Wednesday to Sunday.

The tour tour lasts 60 to 90 minutes. It is a full walking tour with stairs only access to the upper floors. Winter and wet clothing is recommended as the tour explores the wider site.

Behind-the-Scenes Guided Tours are run Wednesday to Sunday at 11am. Pre-booking highly recommended.

A separate ticket is needed to visit the Exhibition or to go on a tour, please add tickets for both to your basket.

Jubilee Tower Tour

This tour offers the chance to climb to the viewing gallery at the top of the Jubilee Tower, offering fantastic views of Shrewsbury, and the surrounding countryside beyond from the eighth storey of the building. This tour is available Wednesday to Friday. It is strongly advised to book both tours in advance.

The tour tour lasts 60 minutes. It is a full walking tour with stairs only access to the 8th floor and is suitable only for people with a good head for heights. Winter and wet clothing is recommended.

Jubilee Tower Tours are run Wednesday to Friday at 2pm. Pre-booking highly recommended.

Opening Times

The Mill exhibition, Turned Wood Café are open 10am to 4pm every Wednesday to Sunday. Closed on Monday and Tuesday during term time*.  

During school holidays* and Bank Holidays, open daily Monday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm.  

*Dates based on Shropshire Council school holiday dates.

Behind-the-Scenes tours run at 11am Wednesday to Sunday. Jubilee Tower Tours are at 2pm Wednesday to Friday.

Wider site is open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 6pm Saturday to Sunday. Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

Turned Wood Café

Group Visits

15 percent discounts are available to groups of 11 or more. 2 months notice is needed for any group bookings.

Visitor Accessibility

The Mill exhibition, Turned Wood Café and the Mill Shop are fully accessible for all users, with onsite accessible parking and toilets. The upper floors of the Behind-the-Scenes tours are currently only accessible by stairs and the top of the Jubilee Tower Tour requires access via wooden stairs and is not suitable for people without a head for heights.

Visitor Information

Dogs and welcome on site and in the café and shop. Only registered assistance dogs can go in the exhibition and on guided tours. We have fully accessible toilets with baby-changing facilities. Breast-feeding is welcome on site. The site is fully no smoking.
