We continue to provide advice and process grant payments as usual. We’re doing what we can to maintain our level of response to planning and listing applications and general enquiries, but please do bear with us if responses are a little slower than usual as we work through the backlog created during the coronavirus lockdowns.

We are currently working hard to open the Archive search rooms and Library for visitors. We have a digital booking system for visits to the public search room. Customer Services are still available via our usual email address: [email protected].

Planning advice services

Historic England is working to our usual deadlines for providing planning advice. We adjusted our working practices in response to the pandemic and will continue to make constructive use of virtual communication where appropriate. We will make site visits when these are necessary, provided that they can be conducted in a way that is Covid-secure

Listing of buildings, other sites and enquiries

Requests for listing or amendments may take longer than normal as we deal with a backlog of casework generated during restrictions on movement. We will, however, continue to process cases as best we can.

If you are concerned about a particular building or site because it is under immediate threat, please tell us by emailing [email protected] and highlight the urgency of the case.

Please be assured that we will respond to all enquiries as quickly as we are able and usually within 5 working days.
