Kickstart Placements at Historic England

Historic England is pleased to be offering Kickstart placements throughout 2021. These placements will give young people a chance to gain valuable experience in a work environment while exploring the amazing career opportunities available in the heritage sector. To be eligible for a placement, you must be between the ages of 16 and 24 and registered for Universal Credit.

Please note, that placements will be advertised by the jobcentre only when we are accepting applications and one month before the expected start date. Business Support Officer (x1)

The purpose of the placement is to provide support to a busy team, with an opportunity to learn essential administrative skills and develop an understanding of the heritage sector.

The postholder will assist with a range of activities including in the following;

  • Supporting the creation of newsletter content, social media posts, as well as helping to prepare for training and conference events
  • Assisting with copyediting and layouts of research reports and publications. Undertaking picture research for both print and digital publications and promotions
  • Helping to log casework information, supporting team meetings (online and face-to-face), as well as processing purchases and other project documentation

High Streets Youth Champion (x2)

The High Streets Youth Champion role will support Historic England to engage with wider audiences on town centre regeneration. The post holder will develop an understanding of our work on using heritage and culture to inspire positive changes to our struggling high streets in town and city centres across England. They will support us with our ambition to better engage with young people. The role will also involve researching how successfully we are already engaging with young people, for instance with our High Streets Heritage Action Zones programme.

The HR Administrator will help to carry out the full range of HR administrative processes including those related to new starters and leavers, contract variations, external references and new starter reference requests, pensions administration and sickness absence.

Provide a customer friendly HR service; which includes the processing of routine HR transactional activity, providing an accurate, efficient and consistent administrative function to Historic England.

To be responsible for administering a wide variety of HR processes around the employee lifecycle for a diverse workforce.

Be able to build effective working relationships, and able to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with clients, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

The placement would include devising a new, better way of organising the many photographs of the wonderful historic assets and places which Historic England has and continues to produce. This will involve:

  • Researching available options – they will need to be secure (probably web-based) and easy to use
  • Finding out what other similar organisations do
  • Talking to people throughout Historic England to find out their requirements
  • Once approved, sorting the existing photographs into the new system. In many cases this will involve reviewing them so they can be tagged with agreed descriptions.

  • Updating and maintaining team files and documents electronically so that they can be shared between the team
